Innovation:Ungrading

All learners begin with a 4.0. When they submit creations (assignments), instructors provide qualitative feedback—support on things they did well, suggestions for improvements, and ways to connect and move forward. Learners do not receive points, scores, or other types of quantitative evaluation. We expect learners to iterate on their creations based on feedback

How we iterate to innovate

@MAET

19 of 29

Our

Beliefs

  • We share a common goal/priority to provide the best student experience we can.
  • We have a mutual understanding of quality.
  • We have developed safety and trust.
  • We embrace collaborativeness and put the team in front of ourselves.
  • We are open to pushback and believe that constructive feedback makes it better. The work we do is meant to be shared.
  • We believe nothing is ever done. Everything can be better.
  • We spend the time needed to do the iterative work.

Our

Actions

  • Develop safety and trust

*The story I’m telling myself

*Marble jar

  • Start with a question and ask more questions

How could we...

What would it look like if…

  • Get data

Feedback from students (SIRS, surveys)

Instructors emails/ideas

  • Use “yes, and”

Say “yes, and”

Do “yes, and”

  • Someone starts

Create a *SFD ($h1tty first draft)

  • Round-robin rely on each others’ strengths
  • Take time to finesse and iterate

Spend that time
