  • Districts all who meet requirements can attend

Requirements:

  • Registered with Team 997- everyone has this done
  • Online FIRST Registration- everyone has this done but 2 parents and 2 students have not given consent to FIRST - need to log in and do this
  • Academically eligible - passing all classes
  • Payment of trip registration fee, arrangement for payment plan or arrangement for scholarships-
    • Team has scholarships funds available based on need

Healthy Travelers

  • Stay home if your are sick
  • Anyone who is diagnosed with COVID in the 10 days prior to an event
    • Evaluate on a case by case bases in collaboration with CSD health Service to determine if they can travel.
  • Anyone who gets sick while traveling will need to be picked up by parents or designee

Travel-learning experience & responsibility

  • Amazing experience to attend FIRST events
  • Team goal is to provide the team this experience at district, PNW and occasionally the world level
  • Responsibility
    • Students on 997 need to demonstrate their responsibility in areas of team work, helping out, following directions.
  • Ongoing evaluation at the team level and student level.
    • At the events, Judges notate both positive and not-so-positive behavior and can impact the team receiving awards
    • PNW championships - if we qualify at this time we expect student can consistently meet the responsibility expectation to travel to Cheney

District Qualifier Competition-CAIS

  • Cost for both District Qualifiers $165- food, transportation and hotel
  • Clackamas Academy of Science, Oregon City March 3rd & 4th will miss school on Friday
    • Limited advance team 2 nights, most of the team 1 night
    • Limited pre team - Thursday March 2nd after school (4-6 team members will go on the 2nd) -
    • Most of the team 1 night- Friday March 3rd, Departing via school bus at 7:00 am, arrive at CHS by 6:49 am
    • Transportation - school bus or possibly Type 20 small bus and mentors

District Qualifier Competition - State Fair

  • State Fair - Oregon State Fairgrounds March 24th & 25th - start of spring break
    • Day trip - no overnight hotel
    • Thursday March 23rd all day Field Set up Volunteers, Thurs afternoon evening pit set up
    • March 24th and 25th Friday and Saturday departing at Friday 7:00 amFriday home around 9 pm, Saturday around 6 pm

PNW - turn around time will be tight. Officially we will know Sunday April 2nd if we qualify and we will leave on Wed April 5th at 7 am (LIkely if it seems possible we will qualify paperwork & payment can be turned in earlier and held)

What to expect at competition

  • Team sits together in the stands
  • Take turns scouting matches
  • Pay attention to the match schedule so you see 997 matches
  • Visit pits, meet other teams, learn from others
  • Long days, that are lots of fun
  • Making new friends on other teams.

Things to know

  • All meals and snacks provided from when leave CHS until we return
  • Be flexible - schedule is hard to maintain especially early in the season.
  • It is loud - ear plugs are good
  • Long, busy days. Arrive at venue at 9 am, Friday matches scheduled until 7:00 pm -but may run later especially at Clackamas it is week 1
    • Friday dinner at event location
  • Saturday event scheduled to end at 4:45 - done by 5:15
  • Spectator - are welcome. Coming Friday or Saturday morning assures you will see 997 play. Sat afternoon depends on alliance selection and how we do. State Fair has better seating

Team Member Responsibilities

  • School expectations at all time
  • Stay at the venue, unless signed out with Carole or Floyd
  • Gracious Professionals - help others, professional at all time, positive scouters, represent the team positively
  • Video games only at the hotel, bus and only hand held units.
  • On time for duties, willingly volunteer when extra help is needed.
    • Safety glass table, event ambassadors
  • Engaged and participating in the robotics event

  • Couples on the team - no PDA, professional conduct
  • Couples on the bus sitting together are seated in the first 3 rows
  • Couples on the team may only be together in common spaces of the hotel. If common spaces are not available this will be addressed by head coach.
  • Visiting with other teammates will be limited to common spaces of hotel
  • Swimming - must bring swimming suit, not cut offs. Let coaches know if you child is a weak swimmer. Mentor must be on deck
  • Violations - Parents will need to come pick students up.

Team member responsibilities - checking in

  • Check in with assigned mentor/Chaperone every 2 hours - student’s responsibility
    • Often by text - but can be in person or with buddy who has phone
  • Check in with mentor/chaperone before leaving immediate venue and pit area. Such as going outside.
  • Must never leave the event location (school) or the area immediately outside of the school. Must be accompanied by a mentor to leave the site.
  • In your room by 10 pm, in bed and quiet, lights & all technology off by 10:30 pm
  • Mentor room check between 10 - 10:30

Team member responsibilities - Grades

  • Passing all classes
  • PNW Championships: (if we qualify)
    • C or higher in all classes, no missing assignments
    • Those who struggled academically who want to go to PNW Championships need to have made a plan with Mr. Whittaker.
    • PNW 3 days of school missed, Worlds is 4 to 5 days of school missed
  • Go see Mr. Whittaker if you need to share your grade plan. He decides who is eligible to travel

Hotels

  • 3 to 4 student per room Shared double beds - some student bring sleeping bags 1 student in the bed, the other on the bed in sleeping bags
  • Keep rooms neat - represent team well
  • Swimming- Mentor must be on deck
  • In room at 10 pm, lights out at 10:30 - that means dark - no video gaming
  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Respectful of other hotel guests
  • No trading of roommates

Rooming Assignments *compliance with district policy JBD

  • Roommates will be assigned.
  • Coach has and will work with families to address individual needs
  • Students and/or parents should contact head coach or assistant coach if they have concerns about a potential roommate
    • if the student is dating a team member of the same gender
    • if the student needs special accommodations.
    • You don’t need to specify a reason why!
  • Students will receive room assignments close to event
  • Keep in mind: Students will have very little time in their rooms
  • PNW student have an opportunity for input into roommates

Emergency Meeting Location

At District competitions the teams has a designated emergency meeting location.

At each hotel we will designate a meeting location. Each person who travels with the team is responsible for knowing this.

Hotels - review and know where the nearest exit is from your room.

Team Shirts & Dress

  • At least two royal blue shirts - one should be Charge Up
  • Put your name on the label - roommates have the same shirts
  • Blue jeans preferred- without holes is the goal
  • Closed toe and heel flat shoes
  • Long hair pulled back and secured for safety
  • No loose dangling strings, hoody strings, lanyards - unless breakaway

What to bring-small bag name on it

  • 2 royal blue team shirts - including Charge Up
  • Long sleeve shirt/ turtleneck to wear under royal blue shirt if you do not have current sweatshirt
  • Blue jeans - respectable condition
  • Change of clothes for evening
  • Closed toe shoe-flats
  • Sleeping wear
  • Toiletries-toothbrush, tooth paste, deodorant-must shower daily
  • Cell phone & charger - Label cell phone with name and team number
  • Jacket, sweatshirt, rain jacket-labeled with student name
  • Medications - check with Carole in advance to determine compliance with district policies

Medication

District policy must be followed.

Over the counter medications require self medication forms turned in. Mentors CAN NOT provide medications to students.

Prescription medications - Medications and Medication paperwork needs to be turned in to Carole by Wednesday before the trip. Original accurate prescription bottles

Cell Phones

  • If you have them bring them charged - remember to bring your cable
  • Charging is not allowed at the venue - extra battery pack is helpful
  • Label with your name and team number
  • Used for communicating with your supervising mentor/chaperone
  • Used for group messaging - We will use Slack
    • Student without this app/ or a phone will have a buddy communication plan.
  • Not for gaming, social media visiting at the event
  • No hot spots at venue, this interferes with the game

We are considering using your child’s cell phones for scouting and your child will be using data to load data. If this is a problem, please have your child tell us!

  • String bag with your name and 997 on it
    • OSU string bags will be passed out
  • Only what fits in a string bag
  • Water bottle
  • Backup battery for phone - no charging at venue
  • Weather appropriate jacket, outerwear
  • Label all items with name and 997

  • Clackamas Food Coordinator*- travel with the team
  • State Fair Food Coordinator -
  • PNW Food Coordinator - if we qualify
  • ? Trailer to transport robot and pit - or we rent from U-Haul
  • Chaperones: (All adults must be CSD approved & meet ODE vaccination requirements)
    • Food Coordinator for State Fair (could be two - 1 day each)
  • Food Shopper could be the same as food coordinator or different
  • Meals are all planned just need to implement

  • 50 teams for PNW will qualify - metric for how this work - district ranking points and 8 Chairman’s award winner
  • We must qualify, we know for sure if we qualify on Sunday April 3rd at 5 pm
  • Cost in past years has been about $350- expect some higher this year
  • Pacific NW Championships Cheney WA, April 5th 7 am--9th -7 pm 4 nights -
    • Transportation - school bus…about 11 hours
    • Hotel to be determined - often Holiday Inn Express Spokane Valley
    • Consistent positive contributor to team at meetings and districts
    • 3 days of school missed - 2 days of class after spring break
    • Requires strong academic standing.- as determined by school administration

      • 22 teams from PNW-includes 2 Impact Award, 2 Engineering Inspirations & 1 Rookie All Star

Worlds Championships

  • Less Mentors on the team will be traveling to World Championships with the team IF we qualify.
  • Generally 4 to 5 days of work missed for mentors/chaperones and days of school for students
  • Need volunteer for several roles
  • High level of individual student responsibility - following directions without reminders, making lunches, public transportation, venue with 400 FRC team, plus much more. Very loud and busy, long days. Limited options to take a break
  • Chaperone will need to apply and then have background check and fingerprints
  • IF Worlds is a possibility parent meeting before PNW to decide if we will accept. MUST commit to Worlds before leaving Cheney.
