METALS WHERE DO THEY COME FROM
Where do metals come from?
Metal is mined from the ground as a metal ore. They are processed and refined to make metals. The process is often like this:
The process is not the same for all metals, but it is often like this.Steel Being Made
1
Crushing—ore is crushed and heated with other materials in a blast furnace, separating the metal from the other substances in the ore. The metal is removed from the blast furnace as molten metal.
2
Pouring—the molten metal is poured into as casting machine where it’s cooled and run through rollers to make varies different shapes, (stock forms)
3
Refining—the molten metal from the blast furnace still has some impurities and for some metals it still needs to be refined to remove these impurities.

3
Transportation—transporting great truckloads of metal ore also causes air and noise pollution.
1
Disfigures—Digging up metals disfigures the landscape.
2
Pollution—processing and refining metals causes pollution – the chemicals used can be harmful, especially if they get into water sources.
4
Disposal—metal products are often disposed of in landfillsites – more metal will need to be extracted from the ground.Instead we could recycle or reuse metals.

Disposal—metal products are often disposed of in land fill sites.
