What is Smart Mobility?

  • Smart mobility is an intelligent transport and mobility network. Smart mobility is the connection of various elements of technology and mobility, a rethinking of the transportation infrastructure used in daily life. Not only does this include the use of traditional motor vehicles, electric vehicles, and public transportation systems, but also completely new modes of transportation like on-demand ride sharing services (Uber and Lyft) and carsharing programs. Changes in consumer behavior like the decline in private car ownership coupled with the rise of completely new mobility options are rapidly changing the way people are getting around.

What is Smart Corridor?

  • The use of electronic signs along the highway and at key intersecting corridors is a key element of smart corridor technologies. Typically lane-specific, the signs provide real-time information and guidance to the traveler regarding changing roadway and traffic conditions, allowing for dynamic speed harmonization and smoother transitions as vehicles approach areas of congestion, accidents, or weather-related issues.
  • A smart corridor system integrates various sets of operating strategies and technologies to dynamically manage traffic. By continuously monitoring traffic and roadway conditions, smart corridor systems can rapidly respond to incidents and other traffic changes by sending updates via automated tools.
  • variable speed limit signs
  • queue detection/warning
  • dynamic junction and lane use controls
  • adaptive ramp metering
  • traffic signal management

Smart corridor in cities

  • US-33 between Dublin and Marysville, near Columbus, Ohio
  • The MLK Smart Corridor is in downtown Chattanooga, Tennesse
  • The North Avenue Smart Corridor, Atlanta

Advantages & Disadvantages

  • The entire route operates with improved       safety.
  • Reduced travel times and increased dependability due to improved traffic flow.
  • Decongestion of the passage during                emergencies.
  • A decrease in secondary accidents brought      on by  traffic.
  • With fewer congested roads for emergency   vehicles, emergency access and incident      recovery times were improved.
  • The risks associated with the potential technology transitioning process. Technologies include the use of CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) cameras, Changeable Message Signs (CMS), Transit Signal Priority (TSP), Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP), vehicle detection systems, centralized traffic signal control software, and the leased or agency owned communications supporting these devices.
  • Protecting data
  • 5G connection

Conclusion

  • In conclusion we want to say that smart corridor is a good way for improving mobility in cities and achieve concept of smart city with great and comfortable infrastructure. Nowadays when technologies are developing so fast this doesn’t see impossible and we should concentrate on safety and providing connection for this conseption.
