Again I am Melissa Benford and I am honored to serve as the National Curriculum Chair. I hail from the Mighty Eastern Region under the dynamic leadership of our Regional Director, Fatimah Moody and home of our National Vice President, Ily Houston. I am a member of the Greater Baltimore County Chapter where my President is Dr. Tina Adjei.

The work of the Curriculum and Development Committee is intentional as we strive to create unique and innovative experiences for all of our children. It is a pleasure to collectively meet such high standards with amazing mothers who are also the phenomenal Chairs I serve alongside. At this time the 2024-2026 National Curriculum and Development Committee will introduce themselves beginning with Chair Telischa Lewis.

COMPONENTS

Jacqueline Moore Bowles Leadership Modules are designed including objectives, activity ideas, materials needed and outcomes to develop all children into leaders. Through the implementation of these enhanced modules teens will be actively engaged in group discussions, experiential activities and presentations of knowledge. For each module you will find 2-4 lesson plans from which to choose.

Global Awareness lessons help our children of all ages explore issues such as Many Uses of Water, Child Labor, Population Issues and Public Health. The provided slides and video links really help explain these BIG issues in a way that is engaging and easy to understand.

Entrepreneurial Learning is a really exciting tool that introduces the elements of successful entrepreneurship. The activities in this resource are written as a script so that any mother member could deliver the lesson easily and achieve the desired outcomes. Entrepreneurial Learning lessons give accommodations that are aligned with We are One.

Active Kids + Mind (formerly BOKS) is considered as both a Leadership component and a Health component as well. Those who commit to the training can earn a certification. This is a great resource for Health and Recreation thrusts. NEXT SLIDE PLEASE

FDIC Lessons include all the resources, videos and talking points to lead children and teens to understand the concepts of earning, spending, saving, Investing, borrowing and protecting their assets.

Investing Pays Off Modules walk Teens through 15 strategies to develop financial literacy. This resource includes pre/post tests and engaging worksheets for each module. At the end of each there is a Critical Thinking exercise and a Take Home Activity that helps to extend the learning.

Entrepreneurial Learning Lessons have 9 activities that are identified as financial literacy. The goals being to consider the different activities entrepreneurs undertake to develop, make and sell their products and services. These are really fun ways to engage in financial literacy in the real world.

These curriculum components are not designed to replace monthly programming. They are created to support our goal of raising tomorrow's leaders and provide a roadmap for acquiring the necessary skills to effectively lead in a constantly changing society.

The Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Leadership Curriculum offers an additional Approved Leadership Curriculum + 6 credits, providing our Jacks and Jills with additional opportunities to further their leadership development beyond the embedded curriculum within the age-group activities. In years when the National Convention is not held, these approved credits can also be used towards the additional 4 Leadership credits required for a Certificate of Recognition. However, during National Convention years, if used along with the six required credits to qualify for an invitation to the National Teen Leadership Summit, please remember each credit can only be counted once.

Jacks and Jills can earn these Approved Leadership +6 credits by participating in a variety of approved activities that fall into three main categories:

First: Participation in Approved Partner Programs� Credits can be earned through involvement in prestigious partner initiatives—such as the LEAD Program, collegiate experiences at institutions like Morehouse and Spelman, and specialty clinics like the USTA Tennis Clinic. Several additional opportunities are also listed on the slide for your reference.

Second: Participation in Jack and Jill Approved Programs� This includes:

Serving in Leadership Roles within our Organization – Elected or appointed positions at the chapter or regional level, such as teen officers, are eligible for credits. We recognize the significant time and dedication these roles require, and the leadership growth that comes from this service.
Completion of Approved Webinars – Available through Digital Cheetah, these Approved Webinar sessions also offer credits with a maximum of 4 per Program Year for Leadership and Financial Literacy credits. Chair Rashida will walk us through these details shortly.

CURRICULUM TRACKING

Thank you. Let me explain the Curriculum Tracker

First, who uses the Curriculum Tracker? The Program Director is responsible for maintaining the chapter's tracker. With the support of Grade Group Chairs and the chapter's Program Committee, they will ensure all children and teens are exposed to the curriculum and receive credit immediately upon completing an element. We recommend the Program Committee review the tracker during their monthly meetings to make sure it is accurate and up to date.

What is the Curriculum Tracker?

The Curriculum Tracker is a tool used to track the module credits for individual children and teens. It helps to monitor their progress and ensures that they are receiving the proper credit for the modules and lessons they complete throughout the programming year.

When is the Curriculum Tracker used?

The Program Director tracks the module credits throughout the programming year. The tracker is generally updated at least once a month, or after each grade group or chapter-wide activity where children and teens are awarded credits.

Where is the Curriculum Tracker?

Every PD has access to the official tracker, which they get by making a copy from the National Curriculum Committee. Once copied, PDs collaborate with GG chairs including LTAs and TAs to maintain and update the tracker independently for their chapters.

Why is the Curriculum Tracker important?

The tracker has been standardized across regions to ensure consistency and ease of use. This standardization allows Regional Curriculum Chairs (RCCs) to easily determine the credits and modules earned by each child and teen, promoting smooth coordination and transparency across all regions. The tool is used to determine those qualifying for Certificates of Recognition and those eligible for an invitation to the National Teen Leadership Summit.

How is the Curriculum Tracker used?

The PDs use the tracker to log and update credits, which they then submit to the RCCs for review. This process ensures that all modules and leadership credits are documented correctly and can be assessed easily by those overseeing the program. The Curriculum Tracker plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and organization of the program, helping track progress and ensuring consistency across all chapters. Program Directors will submit one completed tracker per chapter to their Regional Curriculum Chair at the end of the Program Year.

.As we approach the end of our programming year, we find rich opportunities to reflect on our many successes and accomplishments. By submitting the curriculum tracker, due May 15th, PDs have a genuine opportunity to tell the story of our Jacks and Jills journeys through our esteemed curriculum grounded experiences. As presented by my Sister Chair the tracker clearly identifies the areas where our children have devoted their time over the past year. To celebrate their accomplishments Certificate templates will be emailed to PD this month and should be awarded to each child who reaches our rigorous and challenging programming goals.

Being a new PD in a newly chartered chapter, was truly a defining experience in my Jack and Jill journey. Embracing the thrusts, supporting moms in building engaging programs, and learning how to manage the various tools and partnerships that define our programming approach, would not have been possible for me without the nurturing community of sister PDs in our region and guidance from our national committees, To enhance systems of support we have a established a Curriculum Collaboration folder for each region where we will house chapter-originated tools, trackers, and other helpful items. Featured here we see a sample planning checklist designed by PD Dena Ayers. This one-pager- provides an at a glance view of the lessons, elements, and tools need to build dynamic programs. The hyperlinked program Quick links tool developed by PD JuneKneeKia Forrester, provides a streamlined approach towards locating curriculum tools and resources needed for programming success. Additionally, we have refined our curriculum module review form to ensure consistency and feedback on multi-credit programming options. Module manias, joint chapter events, and area-wide activities should represent the pinnacle of deeply layered-programming, with multiple facets of engagement for children, and delivery of curriculum to ensure core objectives are met. A thread of consistent excellence and memorable experiences should be evident in these programs, so feedback is a critical piece of achieving this mark.

To aid in this service, the curriculum module review form can be found in Digital Cheetah for host mothers to complete and submit to their Chapter Program Director. The form includes the following prompts:

1. What will the participants learn through this activity?

2. How will they engage with this content? Specifically, what will the children do during the experience?

3. What new skills or attributes will the children be able to take away from the experience?

4. How will you know the objectives have been achieved?

To allow time for meaningful dialogue and well-timed support we encourage PDs to submit completed forms to their RCC s as soon as the programming concept is formed. In taking this step, the RCC will be able to walk beside you in the planning phase of these activities to support your success.

ROOTS

Recognizing Our Origins, Traditions, and Stories

NEW CURRICULUM

As you know, we have worked diligently this program year to develop a new curriculum that celebrates our culture, heritage, and traditions. The ROOTS curriculum, which stands for Recognizing Our Origins, Traditions, and Stories, celebrates every grade group in an unique way. The modules will reveal the beauty of our culture to pre k-through kindergarten beginning in Ancient Africa, initiate a reawakening of strength and determination among our children in grades 3-5, our middle schoolers will recognize their gifts, talents, and heritage that makes each of them amazing members of our world, and teens will reflect on who they are and how they embody the essence of those who came before them.

With this curriculum, our children will graduate from our organization better than ready, more than confident, and rooted in the remarkable strength, resilience, and respect of African American History.

To accomplish this goal with exceptionality, we have established a partnership with education company Black History 365. ROOTS will be a new interactive curriculum where we will have access to integrated technology that includes QR codes with documentary interviews, virtual tours of locations across the country, and photos and commentary on historical documents. There is a community engagement portion that will equip our children with how to take what they have learned into their communities. A sidebar chat section to practice discussing topics that are a result of recent actions and new information. And last but not least, the Elephant Experience will teach our children how to address the elephant in the room with respect, knowledge, and confidence. This integrated technology shared by BH365 is updated regularly and will always be able to address current events and preserve our history at the same time. Next slide please
