Team #1: ELEMENTARY

Research Question

Emergency evacuations in an elementary setting are essential procedures that must be completed in a timely manner in order to safely protect staff and students. How can drones help increase efficacy during an emergency in a educational setting?

Future Research

  • We would have to working with Administration and Law Enforcement. Having monthly exercises.
  • Some of the engineering challenges could include maneuvering in halls, battery life of a drone in an emergency situation, integrating all the necessary components on one drone.
  • 3-D Mapping of areas and buildings

Societal Impact

  • Quick safety responses in school settings
  • 5 or less for implementation; We have the capability now.
  • Our drone would impact students, staff, and parents?
  • At schools, and government buildings

Visual Design

We would utilize two different drone sizes. One drone would be smaller and equipped with a camera and sensors. Another drone would be larger and equipped with cameras, infrared sensors, a siren, and taser capabilities.

-Using Drones in an Emergency Situations:Drones are an element to be taken into account when attending health emergencies as they significantly improve the distance travelled to locate accident victims, have the possibility of performing triage prior to the arrival of the health care units, and improve the time and quality of the care provided.

Rationale

The use of Drones allows in real time, that in an emergency setting that school officials and emergency responders are able to react and direct our staff and students to appropriately

handle the situation at hand.

During an emergency drones could be used to

  1. locate staff and students
  2. identify intruder locations
  3. identify physical building concerns: such as gas leaks or fires, floodings, broken components; etc.
  4. Subdue intruders with tranquilizers or tasers
