What is the KRA

The Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA) is an assessment that measures a child’s school readiness across multiple domains so that kindergarten teachers are able to more effectively address child’s needs. The data provided from the KRA can help schools, families, communities & policy makers understand how best to support young children as they enter the K-12 environment.

School Readiness

The KRA provides a snapshot of students’ abilities at the beginning of the school year. The KRA determines each child’s readiness level from an evaluation of the following 4 domains:

Social Foundations
Language/Literacy
Mathematics
Physical Well-Being

These 4 Domains are addressed through:

Observation Items

Domain Rubric

Selected Response and Performance Task Items are addressed with direct Teachers interaction directly with the child individually.

Observation Items can be scored in a variety of naturally occurring settings. Here, teachers observe students individually, in small groups, or possibly as a whole class. Observation items are scored using a rubric that includes specific criteria at three levels of proficiency:

Step 3: Culminating Assessments - complete and pass.

KRA Staggered Start Date

Each kindergarten student will attend one day during the first week of school in August 21-25.

The staggered start date has allowed is designed to ensure kindergarten students can take the KRA during the staggered week. This provides schools with valuable information from the KRA that will help design instruction according to each child’s individual needs.

Develop a plan to immediately reschedule and assess all students who miss their assigned day.
All kindergarten students report to school on August 28.
Information on informing parents will be provided to you from your building administrator.
