THE COMMITMENT OF ITALIAN LIONS TO WATER RESOURCES
In 2008 Lions Water For Life MD108 and international NPO of Lions Clubs International has entered into an agreement with the government of Burkina Faso to develop water resources research activity and supply of drinking water with the construction of drilling wells with electrified pumps via solar panels. Education was provided to government personnel and drilling companies, allowing the elimination of negative perforations and obtaining water flow rates from 300-700 litres/h to 1500-2000 litres/h also allowing the development of sustainable agriculture.
We have built over 150 drinking water wells. Two wells last year in Zekounga and Kielle also experimenting with sustainable cultivation entrusted to cooperatives of women belonging to different local religions.

DESCRIPTION OF THE WATER & FOOD PILOT PROJECT
The purpose of the pilot and universal project is to achieve safety water and food for the communities present in the strategic location of REO in Burkina Faso, in the territorial area subject to desertification and therefore characterized by soils arid and not fertile for agriculture.
The aridity due to strong sunlight is accentuated by the lack of a surface water network. Rainwater is not retained by the arable soil but penetrates deeply.
The solution is therefore connected to the construction of deep drilled wells that guarantee drinking water to the population and food security obtained with the development of adequate and sustainable agriculture.
Before proceeding with the drilling of the wells, this will be done, as per our experience consolidated, to carry out detailed geophysical investigations to obtain maximum flow rates of water adequate for the intended uses (minimum 1200-1500 litres/hour).
The supply of water intended for agriculture is connected to reserve tanks of 10-20 m3 equipped with electric pumps powered by photovoltaic panels for irrigation.

The Water & Food project is completed with actions dedicated to the development of specific crops such as the cultivation of legumes and in particular chickpeas.
Chickpeas are decidedly rustic legumes that require little irrigation water and adapt to very hot climates.
Furthermore, chickpeas, like all legumes, have the advantage of fertilizing the soil by fixing nitrogen and removing it from the atmosphere, helping to reduce the greenhouse gases responsible for climate change.
100 grams of chickpeas boiled in water contain 120 calories with 25% proteins, making them an excellent caloric food.

In 2004 it was born in Genoa in our District 108Ia2, on the initiative of PDG Piero Manuelli, who today holds the role of President emeritus and delegate for international relations.
The :
Lions Club Water for Life MD 108 ETS
Permanent Service of Multidistrict 108 Italy and international Service NPO of Lions Clubs International (from 2015).
The aim is to be able to act as Lions to address the problem of water shortage in countries of need, allowing individual clubs or districts to carry out operational projects for the construction of wells for drinking water and idraulic systems.
Since 2004, our Lions Water For Life and L.C Genova Water for Life 108Ia2 have created 160 wells, many of which are equipped with an electric pump powered by solar panels with complementary static batteries and distribution networks for sustainable agriculture
● We have carried out and are implementing interventions in many countries including:
● BURKINA FASO – TANZANIA – ● INDONESIA – RWANDA –
● CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC - etc., establishing partnership agreements with individual governments.
On 2018, PDG Piero Manuelli promoted the birth of a specialty club in Genoa,
LC Genova Water for Life.
The Purpose of Club is made up of geologists, geotechnical engineers and environmental experts.
They work as volunteers and free of charge in the field of planning and management of works, following and coordinating the time for maintenance of the works carried out.

One of the first N°25 hand pump wells delivered In Burkina Faso and personally tested by President of Lions Acqua Per La Vita and his collaborators.
All built with a 50% grant from LCIF.
Since then the global cost of a well is Euro 7,000 instead of 14,000 paid by our predecessor Lions and other ONG.
