What Motivates Us?

DRIVE

The surprising truth about what motivates us!

Do you respond better to inspiration or to carrots and sticks?

Motivation vs Money

If you watched Dan Pink’s Drive, you may agree that we are primarily motivated by the transcendent purpose we choose, the way we want to do it, with the opportunity to develop mastery in doing it!

Otherwise, when are we money motivated? Do we focus on earning money or do things that we do not love or feel are not altogether justified or moral because we need the money? Are we money motivated when there is not enough, and not money motivated when the amount of money we have to live seems reasonable?

Motivation vs Money cont.

If we are motivated by money when we do not have enough, and are otherwise primarily motivated by serving a transcendent purpose, how then is it that we tolerate the social conditions in which the wealth discrepancy is so great that we can’t even imagine it, war is our accepted foreign policy, and we continually permit the externalization of costs by the multinational corporations onto the environment and society?

Tolerating the Intolerable

Why do we tolerate the intolerable?

  • Is it human nature?
  • Is it that we are programmed by the powers that be?
  • Is it scarce money?
  • Is it unavoidable?
  • Is fear or love creating our existing society?
  • What systems and structures disempower or empower our higher nature?

Love and Fear

  • When are we fearful?
  • When are we loving?
  • Does the current culture inspire us to love or cause us to fear?
  • Are you afraid of what will happen to you if you do not comply with the requirements of society?
  • Is our current reality such that if we do not comply, we will suffer?
  • Does fear cause us to tolerate the sickness in our society?

Government

What is generating the fear that has us tolerate the sickness in our current society?

Could it be the Government?

Could it be that we have given the Government the power to make rules that create the wealth discrepancy, war, poor health, the environmental degradation, and the loss of our freedom and rights?

Are we experiencing the Politics of Obedience? Voluntary Servitude? Is what we are experiencing a new form of Feudalism? Is it Corporate Feudalism?

Is the government doing the bidding of the central banks?

The Political Spectrum

Is the political spectrum really from the dictatorship of the left (Communism) to the dictatorship of the right (Fascism or Corporatism)?

If you choose to denigrate the Democrats, do you approve of Fascism? Or if you choose to denigrate the Republicans, do you approve of Communism?

How about a political spectrum that goes from anarchy (no government) to dictatorship (complete government control)? Where are you on that spectrum?

Should the government dictate how we live our lives? Should the government have powers, particularly legislative powers, that we, the people, do not have?

Did we voluntarily relinquish our powers to our current government? Or were we perhaps coerced?

What kind of governance would correspond to our higher nature?

Is it consent-based self-governance? Are we able to self-govern?

12 of 15

What does it take to self-govern?

Can we trust ourselves to self-govern, as equals based on our active consent?

Can we trust ourselves to do the good as our commitment to and participation in society?

How about when we slip up and do harm? Do we want to be held to account by our peers, people who know us, who – similar to us – want only the best for us?

What if everyone has what they need to live because we issue the money so the money supply is equitably distributed according to criteria we determine is just? And what if everyone has the right to issue themselves the credit they need to accomplish the transcendent purpose they have chosen to serve?

The Primary Tool of the Sovereign

If we are afraid of not having enough money to live, and we recognize that the competition for scarce, debt-based money is what causes our current reality, then perhaps we should be issuing the money for what we agree would be good!

Perhaps what we agree would be good is a society that collaboratively addresses our subsistence needs as well as empowers us to pursue our transcendent purpose and contribute to our communities.

Issuing the money is the primary tool that the sovereign uses to create the conditions in which we live. This is why we are conversing about the world we know in our hearts is possible. When we are issuing the money to fund the world we know in our hearts is possible, we will create it. We will be sovereign.

The social technology exists for we, the people, to issue our own money, namely through community created credit! (We will learn more about this during another session!)

What do you desire to fund?

In your vision of the World You Know In Your Heart is Possible, and with the social technology to issue our own money, what do you desire to fund?

Share – voluntarily as inspired. (Raise your hand.)

This is a question we will be asking often. You will have time to prepare your contribution!

Life as Art

"A total work of art is only possible in the context of the whole of society. Everyone will be a necessary co-creator of a social architecture, and, so long as anyone cannot participate, the ideal form of democracy has not been reached. Whether people are artists, assemblers of machines or nurses, it is a matter of participating in the whole." ~ Joseph Beuys
