What is the AE Project?

The purpose of the AE project is to:

2

  • Bridge the accessibility gap between library and information science and commercial space travel.
  • Use innovation, creativity, art, and science to find sustainable solutions for the environment through space travel + VW/VR
  • Demonstrate the relevancy of LIS across various fields not ltd. to engineering and computer science.
  • The AE Project is a program consisting of open or more individuals who share a love & appreciative enthusiasm for space and are passionate about traveling to outer space.
  • This original work will consist of research, open-discussion, and sharing of knowledge for distribution to diverse information communities and students interested in this kind of curriculum.

But what does this have to do with Second Life?

It has a lot more to do than realized!

  • Virtual worlds (VWs), Virtual Reality(VR) simulations technology are some of many emerging technologies and trends that can be utilized to benefit our community and continue to be an increasingly prominent aspect of everyday life, work, and culture.
  • They are heavily referenced and utilized in the developing stages of many space-related projects including space crafts(3D printing, aircraft design, etc.) astronautic simulation training, sustainability, etc.
  • Technologies and information for space travel and outer space environments offer untapped opportunities for providing real-world solutions to real-world problems.

Current ideas in-process

  • Use VWs/ VRs to create sustainable, creative, and innovative learning spaces (space-themed).
  • Simulate prototypes
  • Compile a bibliography of works related to LIS + Space
