Introduction

Per one of the goals included in the Mequon-Thiensville School District (MTSD) strategic plan, we strive to strengthen and expand community engagement opportunities and communication to foster trust and deepen connections with the school district. One of the methods used to engage stakeholders and gain input to inform decisions includes the use of surveys. To inform our continued planning and school operations, the Mequon-Thiensville School District regularly surveys students’ parents and guardians. In July 2025, the MTSD launched its first Community Survey as part of the District’s Annual Quality Report to the community. This initiative is directly tied to a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for Strategic Plan Goal 4: Community Engagement & Communication, and remained open for approximately two months.

This brief survey provided all community members—parents, grandparents, staff, local employees, and residents alike—with the opportunity to share perspectives on the district’s strengths and areas for growth. Designed to foster transparency and strengthen connections, the survey included a Community Net Promoter Score (NPS) prompt to establish a baseline measure of community engagement and satisfaction. Other topics of focus included: Demographic and residency questions, communication preferences, and methods of engagement with the school district.

Process & Methodology

In July 2025, the Annual Community Family Survey was launched as a QR code link via the 2025 MTSD Quality Report, which is mailed every door direct (EDD) to each residence in Mequon and Thiensville. In addition, parents and guardians were prompted to participate in the survey via subsequent e-newsletter and email communications. The City of Mequon and Village of Thiensville also included a link to the survey in their weekly municipal e-newsletters, and all MTSD schools’ digital monument signs advertised the survey opportunity to passersby throughout the summer.

The survey opened on July 1, 2025, and closed on August 31, 2025, and was administered using Thought Exchange, with paper copies available in the MTSD District Office and Mequon-Thiensville Recreation Department Office. The survey was conducted in a form that is accessible to all, regardless of their electronic device. Participants took the survey anonymously to ensure confidentiality in their responses.
