Who is a fit for CHW services?

Medi-Cal members can receive up to 6 hours of services (12 units of service) initially. Focus is on in-person engagement.

Non-licensed frontline workers who are a trusted member of the community

Individuals have lived experiences that align with and provide a connection between the CHW and the community

They would benefit from coaching, advocacy and peer support for a specific care goal.

County & MCP - Behavioral Health & SUD Collaboration

SUD Screening Implement. (SABIRT) 

(APL 21-014): Implement a SUD screening age 11+ all Medi-Cal members along with brief interventions​.

No Wrong Door - Non-Specialty & Specialty MH Services

(APL 22-005 APL 22-006, BHIN 22-011): Increased coordination & billing between MCP & the County so that members (with established care relationships)

DHCS Screening & Transition Tools

(APL 22-028, BHIN 22-065): Incorporate the DHCS standardized tool for initial screening for adults & pediatrics (for new members) and transitions of care referral (TOC) form (existing patients). 

Eating Disorders (EDO)

(APL 22-003, BHIN 22-009): MCP and County BH share fiscal responsibility for partial Hospitalization and Residential Treatment for EDO due to that the physical care is by MCP & behavioral health care is by County MHPs

Behavioral Health Treatment/under 21 years

(APL23-010): MCP has the primary responsibility to ensure that all Members who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder are provided medically necessary BHT services and that their needs are met across all environments (including school sessions)

Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) 

(APL 21-014 APL 22-005): MCP ensures no/low barrier access to MAT (alcohol, opioid & stimulant medications) for outpatient MAT services and can bill for reimbursement to the County.

Kaiser Permanente: Northern California Behavioral Health Call Center

  • NCAL Behavioral Health services are accessed at each local Kaiser Permanente Behavioral Health Department contact number (after hours, Psychiatry Call Center answers).

  • When members call, they are assessed for their needs and offered a phone, video, or in-person appointment with a mental health and/or addiction medicine specialist, if appropriate, for nonurgent mental health or substance use concerns. Members do not need a referral to access these services from a Kaiser Permanente provider

  • Members can call Members Services for help accessing Behavioral Health at: 1-800-390-3503, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • 24/7 Urgent Appointments & Advice call: 1-866-454-8855 or 711 (TTY)
