What is the Future Ready PA Index?

The Future Ready PA Index serves as Pennsylvania’s one-stop location for comprehensive information about school success, using a dashboard model to highlight how schools are performing and making progress on multiple indicators

3 of 33

Indicators

The Future Ready PA Index illustrates student and school success via three color-coded categories: academic performance, student progress, and college and career readiness, providing the public with a more comprehensive look at how Pennsylvania's schools are educating students.

    • English Language Arts: PSSA English Language Arts and Keystone Literature
    • Science: PSSA Science and Keystone Biology
    • Math: PSSA Math and Keystone Algebra I

Percent Advanced on PSSA/Keystone

This performance measure represents the percentage of all students, enrolled for a full academic year, scoring Advanced on the:

    • Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) in grades 3 through 8;
    • Keystone end of course exams (for federal accountability, Pennsylvania reports students’ best score to date by 11th grade); and
    • Pennsylvania Alternate System of Assessment (PASA) in grades 3 through 8 and 11.

Reporting: Percent Advanced

    • Not reported with a color code because there are no goals associated with this indicator

  • Considered “Informational” - just a reporting measure for public knowledge

On-Track Measures

  • English Language Proficiency* (NEW Indicator)
  • Chronic Absenteeism* (NEW Indicator)
  • Grade 3 Reading/Grade 7 Mathematics Early Indicators of Success (NEW Indicator)

13 of 33

Calculations

English Language Proficiency

  • Calculated using ACCESS test measures, which are currently available for all identified English Learners (ELs)

Numerator: Number of English Learners (EL), enrolled FAY, who met their interim growth target or attainment level on or ahead of time.

___________________________________________________________

Denominator: Number of EL students, enrolled FAY, who have ACCESS scores from the current and previous school years

14 of 33

Reporting: EL Proficiency

    • BLUE = Meets or Exceeds All-Student Statewide 2030 Goal
    • GREEN = Meets Statewide Interim or School Target
    • RED = Does not meet either the Statewide Interim or the School Target

Calculations

Chronic Absenteesim Regular Attendance

Represents the number of students who are enrolled in an LEA for 60 or more days and have missed more than 10 percent of school days for which they were enrolled across that academic year.

Using one year of data as a baseline, cut scores were set at the 75th and 25th percentiles. Performance at or above the 25th percentile cut score satisfies the minimal performance standard.

Reporting: Regular Attendance

    • BLUE = Exceeds the performance standard
    • GREEN = Meets the performance standard
    • RED = Does not meet the performance standard

Calculations

Early Indicators of Success

    • Grade 3 ELA / Grade 7 Mathematics
    • Represents the percentage of students who demonstrate on-track performance measured via a locally selected assessment providing an additional academic data point.
      1. Includes all students who take the locally selected assessment and were enrolled for a full academic year
      2. LEAs will determine whether to report this measure or default to double-weighting of PSSA scores
      3. 95% Participation requirement

Graduation Rate

  • Will display both the four and five year graduation rates but will recognize schools for success in four year rate (as that is what 2030 standards are based upon)

Numerator: Number of students in the cohort graduating with a high school diploma on or before the reporting year

___________________________________________________________

Denominator: Number of students entering 9th grade four years prior to the reporting year (or five, for five-year rate)
