1 - THE GIFTS GIVEN BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

▶ The origin of the gifts

▶ The purpose of the gifts

15 of 54

There are different institutions, ministries, services and operations within the church of Christ; however, all manifestations of spiritual gifts have the same source: they originate and are distributed by the same Spirit of the Lord

(1 Co 12.4,5)

16 of 54

The source and delivery of the gifts do not originate with any man. They come from God and are distributed solely by his absolute favor - his grace. They must be accepted by faith and used for the glory of the Most High (1 Cor 12:3).

1.1 – The origin of the gifts

17 of 54

The gifts, in their diversity, will always be a divine gift, not related to the status of the recipient. They are not distributed based on any system of ecclesiastical hierarchy or on the grounds of human prestige, although it may seem. Nor are they the product of personal experience or awarded as a reward.

1.1.1. – The nature of the gifts

18 of 54

1.2 – The purpose of the gifts

The concept of the body passes through matters related to spiritual gifts. Highlighting two points: the importance of church unity and the non-acceptance of individualism, since no one does everything alone. God can accomplish much more when the Body of Christ is in unity, working together and collaboratively.

19 of 54

1.2.1. – Practical application

Every Christian has a spiritual gift, given by the Holy Spirit after conversion. This gift must be used. All are called to work for the Master. Being part of the church means more than having your name on the membership roll; it means actively participating in the mission God has given to His church.

36 of 54

3.2. Gifts of power

■ gifts of healing

As nothing can limit the power of God, He has made available to the church gifts that can bring healing and comfort to any kind of infirmities.

37 of 54

3.2. Gifts of power

■ working miracles or wonders

This gift involves the expulsion of demons and the action of God's power over the forces of nature, in addition to the Lord's intervention to change a certain situation, supernaturally (Mc 3.14,15; 4.36-41; At 28.3-6).

38 of 54

3.3. Gifts of vocal inspiration

Prophecies are messages delivered to the church, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, which should serve to edify, exhort and comfort (1 Co 14.3; At 15.32).

41 of 54

3.3. Gifts of vocal inspiration

■ variety of tongues

This gift consists of enabling people to speak, by the Holy Spirit, one or more languages that they never learned, that is, an unknown language (1 Co 14.2, 14)

42 of 54

3.3. Gifts of vocal inspiration

■ interpretation of tongues

The tongues spoken by the individual Christian are for his own edification; however, if spoken aloud, with an interpreter, they will edify the church. Tongues spoken in public require interpretation (1 Cor. 14:13).

SERVICE GIFTS

44 of 54

4. SERVICE GIFTS

Because of its meaning, the word diakonia best reflects the exercise of the gifts of service. It was used generally for all Christian service (Rom 11:13; 1Co 12:5; Eph 4:12), or specifically for the ministry of temporal and bodily needs (1Co 16:15; 2Co 8:4).

In the body of Christ it is not the people who choose the role they will play. God is the one who chooses, prepares and empowers people to perform certain tasks. The source of the gifts lies in the wonderful grace of the Most High.

CONCLUSION

God gives them freely to whomever He will, according to His sovereign power, always with a view to building up and increasing His work on earth.
