2/1 - 2/28 - Black History Month - An annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history.
2/1 - World Hijab Day - The first annual World Hijab Day in recognition of Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab and live a life of modesty.
2/12 – Lunar New Year – Three-day festivity, beginning the Year of the Ox
2/15 – Buddhist: Parinirvana or Nirvana Day – Remembers Buddha’s passing in 483 BC and his final nirvana
2/15 - President’s Day - NO SCHOOL
Presidents' Day is a federal holiday celebrated to honor George Washington & Abraham Lincoln’s birthdays.
2/16 - Mardi Gras - is French for "Fat Tuesday," also called Shrove Tuesday. It is the day before Ash Wednesday, which marks the start of Christian Lent season leading up to Easter. During Lent, many Christians fast, and the name Fat Tuesday refers to the last day of eating richer foods before the leaner days of Lent begin.
2/17 – Ash Wednesday – Christian - the beginning of Lent, a period of fasting for 40 days until Easter Sunday
2/25-2/26 - Purim - Jewish - (Hebrew: “Lots”) English Feast of Lots, a joyous Jewish festival commemorating the survival of the Jews who, in the 5th century bc, were marked for death by their Persian rulers.
