Atlas & Global Democracy

5 of 22

WHAT

Atlas is the global movement working to unite humankind. We dream of a world in which we are truly One, united in diversity.

To achieve this utopia, we work to create a people-led, global democratic system where each one of us, regardless of who they are or where they live, can express their voice, come together, and hope for a better future.

WHY

8 billion people inhabit our planet. As obvious as this may sound, it’s clear that #WeAreOne: we share so many characteristics and our destiny is totally intertwined.

It’s time to unite across all borders and beyond differences to build a global, democratic, and equitable society for everyone.

HOW

As mentioned, Atlas is focusing its efforts on designing, building, and launching the future of global democracy. To achieve this dream,

  • This year, we are working to crowdsource a global vision for democracy through our consultations.
  • Then, to make our vision mainstream, we will campaign on it during the 2026 United Nations Secretary General selection process.
  • Finally, if the U.N. refuses our proposal, we will create a new people-backed, global institution ourselves!

We define ourselves as Equitists, as seeking global equity is the north-star of our work.

Our fundamental values are:

🗳️ Democracy,

🌈 Human Rights & Freedoms (e.g., LGBTQ+ rights, abortion rights),

⚙️ Free, Fair & Sustainable Economy,

🤝 Solidarity, and

🌱 Ecologism.

HERE IS A BIT MORE ABOUT ABOUT US…

Consultations

11 of 22

What are our global consultations?

To design a global democracy that is inclusive, effective, and in line with people’s will, Atlas is investing significant resources in conducting year-long global consultations, of which this event is part of.

These consultations are conducted online and offline to ensure broad reach as well as guarantee that people that prefer to physically engage with us can do so. To find the online platform, you can head to consultations.atlasmovement.org

Tens of events are being held across the planet to discuss, debate, and advance this project, so thank you for the bottom of our heart for joining us today!

1. Rules of the games

1. This is a safe space, so please communicate with respect and kindness. Behaviors that make participants uncomfortable will not be accepted.

2. Do not interrupt when others are speaking, and raise your hand to book your time to speak – it will make for a better conversation for anyone!

3. Remember that no one has the absolute truth! We are exploring new concepts and ideas, so be open to challenge your convictions ;)

2. Issues identification

Time to bring it out!

Today’s topic is X, how do you feel about it?

15 of 22

3. Prioritization of issues

Ok, we got many contributions…

Let’s identify up to three issues that feel closer to our hearts!

16 of 22

4. Creation of Citizens’ Proposals

Ok, time for solutions now!

For each issue identified, we should think about high level proposals such as: “we need a global tax authority to tackle multi-national tax evasion".

To make this possible, let’s break the room in smaller groups to find solutions. In case groups cannot agree on a single idea, feel free to make multiple proposals or competing ones ;)

You got 20 minutes, let’s go!

5. Decision on Citizens’ Proposals

Ready for some democracy?

All proposals that get at least 50% of participants’ support will be taken on to the next stage of the consultations, and assessed/developed by the Atlas Policy Team.
