SPECTATOR CODE OF CONDUCT
SCHOOL DISTRICT #73
Our commitment
As outlined in the School District’s Strategic Plan, SD #73 fosters opportunities to promote the emotional, psychological and, physical well-being for students and staff.
Aggressive, threatening or other inappropriate behaviour by team members, their families, their friends, and others while attending a game or event will not be tolerated. Positivity is contagious and can easily drown out the negativity of one unruly spectator. Focusing on having a supportive and encouraging environment can help maintain a positive atmosphere for both athletes and the other spectators.
These behaviours specifically include:
What the Athletic Department will do
SD73 asks you to:
Non-Compliance
The game will be stopped when spectators displaying inappropriate and disruptive behaviour interfere with others at the game. Any spectator identified will be brought to the attention of the coach, athletic director or school representative for the purpose of removing them. Once removed, play will resume. Violators may be subject to further disciplinary action.
DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS:
Artificial Noisemakers & Air Horns (compressed air)
Artificial noisemakers or air horns using compressed air are not permitted during games. The school representative shall have the authority to eject from the facility individuals who, following a warning, refuse to comply with this requirement. Air horns will be confiscated by the school representative and held at the office for pickup.
Coaches Code of Conduct

Extra-Curricular Athletics Safety Guidelines(click heading)
The primary responsibility for the care and safety of athletes rests with the School District and its employees. An important aspect in this role is recognizing the element of risk inherent in all physical activity and take action accordingly. It is important to identify all foreseeable risks and develop procedures that help minimize preventable accidents and injuries.

Ways to help us
Be part of the solution, not the problem (impacts vs intentions).
Leave the reffing to the refs, coaching to the coaches.
Encourage positivity in stands/social media (try to be aware of what is being said / posted on social media and let us know of any issues)
Be mindful of what you say on your way to and from events in the vehicle as studies show it is one of the leading causes of athlete drop out.
Studies also show kids want to hear:
“I love watching you play.” - ( or your team)
“I am proud of you.”
If they don’t play very much, encourage/praise them for being supportive of their teammates and engaged in the game. If it is an ongoing focus, maybe an individual sport is more suited for the player.
Use Sabres or Sa-Hali when cheering instead of player names.
Encourage commitment and time management.
Be engaged. Put your cell phone away.
Enjoy the time watching the team. 1-5 years goes by fast.
