  • Isaiah’s name means the “salvation of Yahweh.
  • Isaiah prophesied from 739–681 BC (through 722 & before 586).
  • Isaiah was from a royal family, married to a prophetess who bore him two sons (Isaiah 7:3; 8:3).
  • He prophesied under the reign of four Judean king; Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah and he was martyred by the fifth, Manasseh.
  • Most of the book is Poetic and is called the Fifth Gospel as it provides us with the most comprehensive prophetic picture of Jesus Christ in the entire OT.

  • Hosea’s name means “Yahweh saves”.
  • Hosea (a prophet of Israel) contemporary of Isaiah, prophesied from 760–710 BC, witnessed the Assyrian captivity 722 BC.
  • Hosea, was first commanded to marry a prostitute (1:2)
  • The Lord gave the names for Hosea's three children, names that symbolized God's divine judgments against Israel.
  • A son Jezreel (1:3) “God sows”, a daughter, Lo-ruhamah (1:6). "Ruhamah is stemming from the root word raham meaning deep love or mercy related to the womb”,“ a son called Lo-ammi (1:8) "not my people." This was the most devastating name yet. The Lord was rejecting the people of Israel in their sinful state.
