ACADEMIC PROGRESS: EARLY INDICATORS ARE MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

Our strongest evidence of progress continues to be in Grades 3-5 ELA. The percentage of scholars meeting or exceeding expectations increased from 15.1% in 2023-2024 to 18.4% in 2024-2025 and 21.7% in 2025-2026. During that same period, the percentage of scholars scoring Below Expectations declined from 42.8% to 40.8% to 33.5%. We are also encouraged by the progress among our economically disadvantaged scholars in Grades 3-5 ELA, where the percentage meeting or exceeding expectations increased from 10.1% to 14.9% and then to 19.2% over the same three-year period.

ACADEMIC PROGRESS: MATH - Area of Opportunity

Math remains an area requiring significant improvement, and I do not want to minimize that. However, we are seeing scholars begin to move out of the lowest achievement category. In Grades 3-5 Math, the percentage of scholars Below Expectations declined from 59.2% in 2023-2024 to 53.9% in 2024-2025 and 46.2% in 2025-2026, while the percentage Approaching Expectations increased from 28.3% to 32.4% to 40.8%.

Our current math proficiency level of 13.0% is not where it needs to be, but the movement from Below to Approaching gives us an important opportunity. Our work this year is focused on converting that movement into proficiency and sustained growth. We are seeing similar emerging movement in the upper grades. In Grades 6-8 ELA, the percentage of scholars Below Expectations decreased from 41.5% in 2024-2025 to 31.8% in 2025-2026, while Approaching Expectations increased from 46.3% to 55.7%.
