A Note About End-Of-Year Testing

Important: This week we will engage in end-of-year assessments. These nationally-normed tests are low-stakes which means that the results do not change a scholar’s future placement, lead to removal from our program, and will not negatively impact the scholar. Please ensure that your scholar is hydrated, fed, and has had a good night of rest, daily, so that they will FEEL good as they complete these requirements. Please help us to emphasize the need to do their best but that there is NO RISK if they have a rough testing day. It is critical to us to break the pattern of learned-behavior that has developed largely from our society of high-stakes testing. Children who are taught well, engage, and have a team of support across their teachers, families, and peers will do well on their testing. We have collected loads of meaningful data, all year, on each scholar’s growth, strengths, and areas for improvement. We will utilize the data gained from these tests as a piece of this larger picture of your child’s educational journey and to help us to continue meeting him/her where they are and to push them to grow from there, in all areas of academics as well as socially and in their dispositions and executive functioning. Thank you for helping us to send a clear message to your child that they are more than good enough and that their testing need not bring them undue worry, anxiety, or stress. Thank you for your partnership in supporting your child through this week of testing.
