Challenges

  • Memberships down to 177 this year from 243 last year. Yet volunteers up to 86 from 40 so there is community support but lack of value seen in memberships.
  • Weddings rentals pre-covid were every weekend in June, July and August. This year one wedding booked. Significant revenue loss. Updated and lowered our rental fees to be more competitive.
  • Must repay the Canada Emergency Business Account CEBA $40,000 during the next year.
  • Increasing our activity means increased demands on human resources – both staff and volunteers. We need to continue to expand and better coordinate our volunteer base.
  • Co-workspace launched in 2020 closed in July due to water damage. Now obsolete due to new Mage high speed internet. Need to explore reallocation of the space.
  • Ongoing maintenance issues with an aging building will continue to require investment to keep the building and grounds safe and useful.

Questions?Thank you for your time and attention! “It makes me proud to live in a community with a facility that provides space for mental, physical, and emotional well-being! Where else can you go to watch a concert, a movie, play a sport, attend a wedding or a funeral, find support, or vote? The community center is part of my heart and the heart of the community.” S.D.
