Other Issues

  • Every game is a separate contract. Your rights and responsibilities begin when you accept each game.
  • BOCES may offer a game or not, entirely at their discretion
  • You may accept a game or not, entirely at your discretion
  • BOCES Expectations
    • Follow Section 1 Sportsmanship and Sports Standards
    • Follow Referee Code of Ethics [See Rule. Book p9]
    • Maintain an appropriate educational environment, free from discrimination, harassment or bullying.

Grievances

  • Complaints about another referee — must go through the process in our bylaws
  • If BOCES receives a complaint from a school, coach or parent
    • About officiating - should be referred to WPASOA
    • About other conduct - may be handled directly by BOCES
  • Thus — BE CAREFUL WITH EVERYTHING YOU SAY AND DO

Insurance

WPASOA Insurance covers you ONLY when you are officiating BOCES-paid games.

  • Liability (injury to others or property damage) - $2M per occurrence, $5M per event
  • $25,000 Excess Medical coverage when officiating or traveling directly to or from a covered game

NO OTHER GAMES, ORGANIZATIONS OR ACTIVITIES ARE COVERED

Optional - NASO membership and insurance can be purchased to cover any officiating activity for any organized sport
