Initial plan:

  1. Model responsible AI usage in the classroom
      • by being transparent about my own usage
      • by inviting students to use AI to complete some assignments

  1. Utilize AI tools to develop engaging assignments

AI usage for this presentation:

  1. Presentation visuals: I provided Claude.ai with my research plans, including methods and data sources, and it generated two visuals that I incorporated into my slides.

  1. AI Usage Scale Development: I submitted anonymized student responses detailing their use of AI to ChatGPT and requested a usage scale from no use (0) to complete reliance (7) with exemplar statements from students.

  1. AI Usage Scale Application: I will describe this as I present the material.

AI-Based Assignments

  1. Created in collaboration with AI

  1. Inviting students to use AI

generated by asking chatgpt to show me a map of 2 people falling in love

Use AI to generate two distinct abstracts from this week’s readings for two different audiences. For example how would you present this work to one's sexist grandfather OR your 5-year-old niece?

Use AI to create a visual representation of a “relationship map.” You may choose the type of relationship. Your map should include communication patterns, gender dynamic, external influences, and common challenges. You may also want to include a place for personal reflections on these types of relationships

Design a video game or board game aimed at children (ages 6-12) that intentionally subverts traditional gender expectations and embraces the idea that gender is non-binary.

Initial plan:

  1. Model responsible AI usage in the classroom ✅
  2. Utilize AI tools to develop engaging assignments ✅

Research Motivation:

  1. Unexpected negative attitudes expressed towards AI based assignments
  2. Inefficient/wordy descriptions of AI usage

I'd like to restrict ChatGPT use as much as possible. It may stifle our future creativity.

I enjoy the idea that ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence can be viewed as collaborators or cited sources.
