Our Natural Resources

Economic

• The major economic sector is logging
• Secondary economic sectors are recreation
• Snowmobiling
• Skiing at the local mountain
• Hotels
• Restaurants
• The local mill shut down in 2001 creating a loss of 200 jobs

Cultural

• A majority of the population lives here year round.
• Summer visitors arrive in July and stay until September.

• Our Community has one of the smallest populations for a town in Maine.
• During the peak of logging in Maine our community had one of the largest populations in the state of Maine
• We have the highest number of lakes in our region.
• Canada is our closest neighbor.
