Kindergarten Orientation
*What is it?
Kindergarten orientation is when you and your child will meet & greet with the Kindergarten teachers in late spring. Parents will have time for questions & will complete a child information questionnaire. Incoming Kinders will work with learning centers, alongside simple Kindergarten Readiness assessments.
*Orientation Sessions
When you register your child for Kindergarten, you will schedule a 45 min orientation session for Wednesday, May 20th or Thursday, May 21st. There are 3 time slots available per day.
Kindergarten Readiness Skills
*Reading: enjoys stories, wants to read or be read to, is familiar with some nursery rhymes & books
*Letters: recognizes some letters (especially those in name), writes name independently
*Numbers: counts to 20, counts 10 objects, recognizes some numbers up to 10
*Social: follows directions, takes turns, demonstrates self care, works independently
*Fine Motor: uses a tripod pencil grip; cuts, glues, zips, & buttons
IMPORTANT
Our Kindergarten is a FULL DAY Program
Mon-Thurs, 8:10-3:25
with a Rolling Start beginning at 7:50am. During Rolling Start, students can eat the school breakfast and have a simple and easy transition to their classroom.
There is no school for students on Fridays.
Attendance
Please understand that Kindergarten has rigorous expectations & on-time, daily attendance is extremely important to your child’s success!
Placement You will receive a welcome letter from your child’s Kindergarten teacher in early August. Please understand that your child’s placement may not be made final until a couple of months after school begins, if we need to better balance classrooms.
Open House You will receive an invite in early August to schedule a session for Open House on Monday, August 17th. During this time, you & your child will meet your child’s Kindergarten teacher, drop off school supplies, tour the classroom, & meet with important service providers, such as transportation.
First Week of School
Half of the Kinders will begin on Tuesday, August 18th & the other half on Wednesday, August 19th. All Kinders attend school on Thursday, August 20th. This helps make the transition to Kindergarten easier for everyone! Your child’s teacher will include your child’s start date in their welcome letter.
School Supply Box
There is an option to order a School Supply Box online & have it delivered
directly to your child’s classroom at the beginning of the school year. This information will be available during the Kindergarten Orientation.
Backpacks Your child will need an appropriate size backpack, even in Kindergarten. It should be big enough to fit a lunch box, snack box, water bottle, take-home folder, extra clothes, & snow gear!

Students will need 2 healthy snacks per day. Please pack snacks in a separate container, if packing your child a cold lunch.
*School Breakfast & Lunch
For the 2026/27 school year, breakfast & lunch are free to all students through the Healthy School Meals For All program. Breakfast is served from 7:50 - 8:10am, and Kindergarten lunch is served at 11:45am. Click the link below for more nutrition information.

SeeSaw
Our school uses a simple, user-friendly, app called SeeSaw to send you schoolwide information, classroom newsletters, & check-ins. This is our main form of communication with you! When there are new SeeSaw posts, you will be notified via app notification or email. You will receive an invite for SeeSaw at the beginning of the school year.
*What is it?
It’s a web based system for safely communicating after-school schedules, absences, tardies & early pickup. There is no more calling the school to relay this information!
*Default After-School Schedule:
You will receive an invite with a private link in early August & you will be required to set up your child’s default after-school schedule. The next slide shows after-school options.
*PICK-UP CARDS:
You will receive 2 PICK-UP CARDS at Open House that you MUST SHOW when you pick your child up, either In-Person or in the Hug-N-Go lane.

*Bus Services
Only grades K-5 need to sign up to ride the bus, & this is done with the Pick-Up Patrol system. *PLEASE NOTE, you will need to clearly indicate WHERE your child will be getting off the bus with Pick-Up Patrol, such as Forest Lakes, Pine River Library, or home address, etc. Click the link below for morning & afternoon Bus Routes & Times.
