Unix / Linux command line basics (demo)

  • ssh – connecting to remote systems
  • cd, ls, mkdir, cp, mv, rm – basic navigation of file system
  • cat, nano, vim – read and edit files
  • scp, rsync – moving files between remote systems

Windows users may find PuTTY (SSH client) or Cygwin (~Unix emulator) useful. Virtual machines are also easy to set up

  • facethome is a hub for FACET controls
    • Get to controls network (e.g. FastX, ssh mcclogin, ssh fphysics@facet-srv01)

    • Initially saved to FACET NAS (controls network only)
