SVVSD PE WAIVER

The St. Vrain Valley School District requires all students to complete two (2) physical education credits to graduate. However, students have the opportunity to waive up to 1.0 physical education credit. Students who maintain full-time student status during all four years of high school and meet all other graduation requirements may waive a .5 physical education credit by successfully completing one of the following criteria:

  • One (1) St. Vrain Valley School District athletic program at the high school level; OR
  • 72 hours during an 18-week period of an appropriate, pre-approved, structured, and supervised physical activity outside of the school district.

IMPORTANT: Credit is waived; not earned. Students must still accrue 24.5 total credits to meet graduation requirements.

*Contact your school counselor if you wish to apply for a PE Waiver.

Students who need to make up core classes may need to attend summer school or eCredit Recovery. Add these courses to your request form and make sure to have a conversation with your counselor.

If you want a recommendation to be reconsidered:

  • Complete the chart on your registration form AND talk to your teacher
  • Recommendations will be reviewed in the spring so NOW is the time to show your dedication and motivation.

CONSIDERING AP COURSES?

  • Prioritize AP Courses over Concurrent Courses (MOST Concurrent courses are not weighted typically (exceptions based on district policy / curriculum office)

  • Keep balance in mind. You want to do well in your AP classes and be prepared for the exam. Remember you have other classes and commitments too! See your counselor if you are considering 4 AP courses.

  • See your counselor if interested in an AP course not available at Lyons. St. Vrain Virtual High School may be an option if you demonstrate academic preparedness.

CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT

  • Opportunity for Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors to take a college class while still in high school. Must meet eligibility criteria (demonstrate college readiness; via grades/ attendance, 3.5 GPA minimum).

    • Interested? Contact your counselor.

    • Required Meeting in March Receive info from Counselors. Process, paperwork, deadlines, application due date March/April (Date will be given at meeting). Pay attention to email/ newsletter for details.

  • SVVSD pays tuition at the community college rate. This does not cover books or fees.

CETC: Career Elevation and Technology Center

The classes at CETC provide provide real-world, hands-on experiences in pathways that are high-wage and high-growth and are in high-demand. These pathways allow students to acquire knowledge, skills, and college credit linked with specific post-secondary programs leading to a two-year or four-year degree.

The SVVSD Innovation Center provides rigorous extended learning and mentorship opportunities, where students gain valuable experience through employment that focuses on designing and engineering technology solutions for industry and community partners.

AGILE: Advanced Global Interactive Learning Environments

AGILE is a new pilot program that allows students flexible access to coursework between schools. Students taking these courses will have designated spaces at Lyons Middle Senior High and will take these classes remotely at other high schools.

COLLEGE BOARD OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS

The College Board has launched a new scholarship program with $5 million of scholarships each year, beginning with the class of 2020.

The Scholarships (https://opportunity.collegeboard.org/)

The more effort you put in, the more opportunities you have to earn a scholarship. Complete all six, and you’re eligible to earn $40,000. Scholarships will be awarded through monthly drawings to students who complete each action.

  • Colorado Department of Education allows students to add essay option at no cost (must register to add the essay- next slide)

Please note: College Board discontinued offering the SAT with Essay in 2021 so there are no that colleges require it �To find out if a college will still consider the essay, check with the colleges you’re interested in about their policies. It is possible that colleges may consider your scores as part of their review process.
