Attendance and Tardiness

Morning drop off begins at 7:00
Students must be in their classrooms at 7:40
If students arrive to their classroom after 7:38, they are tardy
The elementary school day is 7:40 - 2:25
Breakfast is served from 7:00 - 7:38. No student will be denied breakfast, but if they arrive in their classroom after 7:38 they are tardy.
Regular attendance is essential for success.
Tardiness impacts students’ academic achievement.
All students are subject to the DCSS Attendance Protocol.

Absences

Being at school is important
A letter will be sent from the school social worker after the 5th and 7th unexcused absences
For each absence beyond ten (10) days, students must bring an excuse from a doctor, dentist, health center, court, etc. for the absence(s) to be excused. Parental handwritten notes will no longer be accepted after 10 days.

Student Check Out

Student check outs should be reserved for illness, doctor appointments, and extreme emergencies.
In order for a student to be considered in attendance for the school day, they can not check out before 11:00. They should also be checked-in by 11:00 if they are arriving late.
Students are not allowed to check out of school after 1:00 because elementary school is preparing for afternoon dismissal This is to ensure the safety of all students.

Please understand that when a student checks in late or checks out early, they do miss valuable instruction.

Afternoon Transportation

Each afternoon, a list is printed specific to the day and mode of transportation. These rosters are our attendance to ensure students go home the correct way. We have over 400 students to check off in the afternoon. It is imperative that changes be made prior to 1pm. These changes are documented and a slip is given to your student for their safe arrival to the correct mode of transportation.

Buses: Green Tags/Red Tags - if your child has a green tag, this means you have noted permission for them to exit the bus without a parent/guardian present at the stop. Red means the student will be brought back to school in the event no adult is at the stop.

Cars Riders:

Car rider line begins at 2:20 pm. Rules and procedures for car rider dismissal are in place for the safety of our students. Please stay in your car in the afternoon for car rider dismissal. Please place your Annette Winn placard (do not make your own, as we will not accept it) in a visible location in your car so that the caller can see it easily and radio inside for a faster dismissal.

If your child needs assistance with his/her buckle, you will need to pull up past the first cone so that the car rider line can continue dismissing.

Additionally, students are not allowed to be brought around to the driver’s side of the vehicle for the safety of both the child and the loader.

After School Program

AFTER SCHOOL: 2:45 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

The ASP is open from 2:45 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. We are closed on holidays, 1/2 day early release, and summer break. We ask that parents or guardians please pick up their children no later than 6:00 p.m. Programs do charge a late pick-up up fee of $1.00 per minute, per family after 6:00 p.m.

Registration is only available online for this fee-based program
$10.00 registration fee per family (Students must pre-register in order to attend the after school program)
$10.00 per day, per child (regardless of amount of time in the program). We are considered a pre-paid program and ask parents to please provide payment a week or more in advance of the child(ren) staying.
Payments may be placed in the ASP payment box located at or in the school office and in the Eleyo Platform There is a 3.99% credit card processing fee applied per transaction made on online payments with credit card or ACH electronic payments.
There is a $10.00 late fee applied to outstanding balances.

Transportation Changes

ALL transportation changes must be made through the front office by calling 770-651-3108. Emails can also be sent to transportation-awes-dcss@dcssga.org . Please do not email or leave voicemails for your child’s teacher for transportation changes. Teachers often do not have the opportunity to check their email or voicemail throughout the day. For the safety of your child, it is mandatory that all transportation changes are made through the office.

Emergency Contact and Medical Information

Prior to your child coming to school, please be sure to let the school office staff know of any medical conditions or medications your child may need to take at school.
The clinic clerk will administer any and all medications to children.
A district medication form must be completed by the parent/guardian and the medication must be in its original bottle/container.

Students who register and are approved by July 8, 2025 are eligible to attend Kindergarten Camp (July 14 - July 17, 2025)

The following documents are needed to complete the registration process:

• Certified copy of the child's birth certificate

• Georgia Immunization Form 3231 (complete for school)

• Georgia Eye, Ear, Dental and BMI Form 3300 (must be completed within the last 12 months prior to enrollment in a Georgia school)

• Student's social security card or waiver

• Parent/Legal Guardian's photo ID

• Custody/Guardianship papers signed by a judge (if applicable)

• Proof of Residency
