Research methods
Combine observations, theories and modeling to understand climate and its impacts.
In particular, we use high-resolution (50 km and higher) global climate models (GCMs) to explore extreme climate and weather events, e.g. tropical cyclones, extreme precipitations and heat waves.
GCM
Tiger cluster at Princeton
Example experiments from GFDL-AM2.5C360
GFDL-AM2.5C360: ~25 km resolution GCM (directly simulate intense hurricanes).
Historical experiment: 10 ensemble members over 1871-2020.
RCP4.5 experiment (future projections): 3 ensemble members over 2021-2100.
TXx: annual maximum of daily maximum surface air temperature.
