• To assist teachers with determining their student’s ability to meet National English Language Curriculum Framework (NELCF) reading and writing outcomes. 
• To ensure that the task gives students exposure the format of the Term 1 End of Term summative assessment. 
• To facilitate production of a complete record of work for school-based and Assessment Unit (AU) staff.

The Lion and the Mouse

The lion caught the mouse. �“Be kind to me and later I will help you!” said the mouse.�The lion didn’t know how a little mouse could help him, but he set it free. �One day the lion was caught in a net.

The mouse cut the ropes with its teeth and said: “Now you see that even a mouse can help a lion.”
