Take Action

The point of this post is to reach out to teens, with the intention of having them be proactive by giving them examples of how they can help end gun violence. Keeping themselves informed, supporting an organization, or volunteering with advocacy groups, are easy ways they can be part of the change.

This post along with the rest of our posts, include our campaign hashtags and our website link for more information and resources.

Davonte Friedman

This post is about Davonte Friedman who was a young African-American activist from Maryland who spoke against the lack of opportunities present among underserved teens. Using his quote “I’m just glad I made to see 18.” we hoped this tragedy would encourage teens and children to see the devastating effect gun violence causes and realize it can easily happen to them. #DontBeAStatistic is very powerful in this post because if we don’t encourage change, all victims will continue to be just a statistic.

This post was created to draw attention to the yearly statistics about gun violence and how children and teens are victimized due to self harm, or others negligence. We used the caption “CHILDREN AND TEENS ARE SHOT EVERY YEAR” with clapping emojis in between each word to keep the post eye catching and to convey how serious of an impact gun violence has on our target audience. The caption is also relatable to our audience because it’s on trend with our target demographic.

Jamie Taylor Guttenberg was only 14 when she became a victim in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. We told her story to show our audience how real the issue of gun violence truly is. The post also supports the overall idea that anyone can become a victim of gun violence no matter where or what you are doing.

We dispelled common myths with facts to reveal how harmful and prevalent the issue of gun violence truly is among children and teens. We added #KnowYourFacts to help inspire children and teens to sift through fake news and find the truth.
