Everyone is responsible, not only for their own Health and Safety on site but is also responsible for the health and Safety of those people working around them.

Accidents, Incidents and Near misses are Avoidable, If you have the right attitude and support to health and safety.

If you don’t work safely….and injure (or worse) yourself, or others…. Think of the consequences….. Your family….your friends…how will they react… long term effects????

The greatest gift you can give to your family is your SELF!!!

Project Site Safety Rules

  • All personnel (including visitors and sub-contractors) must have received a Project Site Safety Induction prior to commencing working on site.
  • All personnel must wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times (3 items minimum includes, safety shoes, safety helmet and safety vest.)
  • Observe all Project site Safety signs and instruction.
  • Observe Project site traffic rules.
  • Report all accidents, incidents and near misses, no matter how small, or incidental to the site Safety Officer.
  • Work areas should be kept as clear as possible of unnecessary materials and waste. Use Bins provided.

Project Site Safety Rules

  • The use of being in possession of or being under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited.
  • Do not remove, deface or damage safety signs or barriers, they are there for you, and others safety.
  • Do not operate equipment that you are not trained or authorized to use.
  • Ensure that you have the right tools and power tools to carry out your job… if you don’t… then ask!
  • Only carry out electrical repairs and maintenance if you are qualified to do so

  • Ensure that you pre-check your tools and equipment prior to starting work. Fill out the necessary forms or checklists, if required.
  • Do not use faulty or broken equipment; segregate it from use; report it to your manager, foreman or supervisor, so that proper repair can be carried out.
  • Walkways and steps should be kept clear and free from obstructions.
  • Materials should be stored safely, whether in the site compound or around the site.
  • No eating in work areas, use designated break areas and always wash your hands before eating and drinking

Project Site Safety Rules

  • Strictly NO SMOKING while working and work areas, designated smoking area is provided and during break only.
  • No running, horseplay or fighting.
  • No urinating on work area; use the toilet areas or chemical toilets provided.
  • Keep rest areas toilets clean.
  • Always wash your hands after using the bathroom.
  • Ensure that you drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated.

Personal Protective

Equipment (PPE)

There are 3 mandatory items of PPE that must be worn on site at all times:

  • Safety Boots or Shoes (Metal toe caps)
  • Hard Hat
  • Hi-Visibility vest

Additional PPE may required depending on the activity / job or area that you are working in e.g. Gloves, Safety glasses, Dust mask etc. these will be identified in method statement and risk assessments.

Drugs and Alcohol

Zero tolerance Project Site

  • No Alcohol is to bought on site.
  • No consumption of alcohol permitted on site.
  • No illegal drugs or substance to be bought on site.
  • If you are caught under the influence or in possession of drugs or alcohol on site you will removed and disciplinary action will be taken.

Project Site Traffic Rules

  • The maximum site speed limit is 20kmh, but you must drive with care and attention at all times taking into consideration road and weather conditions.
  • Stop if your route ahead is obstructed. If you cannot proceed or remove the obstruction safely yourself, then you must contact your supervisor or foreman to arrange safe removal.
  • Only proceed when route is clear of obstruction, plant and people.
  • At blind corners or busy junctions sound horn to warn other drivers of your approach.
  • Keep the designated roadways and haulage roads. (No of Road driving is permitted).
  • Do not damage or remove edge or barriers, they are there for your safety!

  • A circle with a red outline and red line from the top left to bottom right indicates than an action is prohibited –“Do Not”
  • A triangle with yellow background is used to indicate a Warning – “Danger /Caution”
  • A circle with a blue background is used to indicate than an action is mandatory –“ Must Do”
  • A green rectangle with green background is Advisory – “Information”

Good Housekeeping is the Responsibility of all Employees

Good Housekeeping involves the maintenance of:

  • Sound structures
  • Power lines
  • Tools and machinery
  • Storage area and equipment
  • General cleanliness

Site Safety Housekeeping

Storage and stock needs special attention to keep damage to a minimum.

  • Clear all empty boxes and wastepaper from the walkways.
  • Do not manually lift heavy item single handed.
  • Stack materials so that they are easily accessible.

A Tidy Site is a Safe site.

  • Do not stack boxes or materials to high.
  • Ensure that rubbish does not accumulate in walkways.
  • Clean up at the end of a shift.
  • Soak up and clean up oil spill immediately.
  • Keep access to fire extinguishers and fire escapes clear at all times.

Incident and Accident Management

  • Timely reporting – as soon as possible report the accident, incident or near misses to the site Safety Officer.
  • All accidents, incidents or near misses must be reported to the site Safety Officer and Supervisor in the first instance.
  • All injuries that require treatment must be reported to the first aider or site nurse for initial assessment.

Emergency Procedures

In the event of emergency or Fire:

  • Raise the alarm.
  • Contact the emergency services (000).
  • Contact the site Safety Officer.
  • Tell them who you are, where you are and what the emergency is, await instruction.

Emergency Procedures

On hearing the alarm:

  • Evacuate your working area.
  • Evacuate immediately via the signed escape routes.
  • Proceed to the nearest assembly point.
  • Await instruction – do not return to work / site until specifically told to do so by the Project Manager or the site Safety Officer
