Bullying

Identifying Bullying:

Not Bullying but is RUDE: Accidentally or unintentionally saying or doing something that hurts feelings or embarrasses someone.

Not Bullying but is MEAN: Saying or doing something on purpose to hurt someone; happens once or twice.

Not Bullying but is CONFLICT: Conflict is a disagreement or argument in which both sides express their views. There is equal power between those involved and it generally stops when they realize it is hurting someone

BULLYING: The goal is to hurt, harm or humiliate someone. The bully has more power (physical, social, socio-economic). The behavior continues even when they realize it is hurting someone.

Harassment

Harassment means unkind actions or words because of a student’s differences.

Discrimination

Discrimination:

Making fun of someone or treating someone unfairly because they are different.

Examples:

  • Calling someone a mean name about the color of their skin
  • Telling someone to go back to where they came from
  • Calling someone a mean name because they think differently than you

Reporting

If you are caught bullying

OR

If you try to get back at someone who reported bullying

Consequences may include: phone call home, conversation with other person, suspension from school

If you need help:

Report to:

  • Your teacher
  • Principal
  • Assistant Principal
  • Office Staff
  • Counselor
  • Another teacher at BRE

Once reported, a thorough investigation of the incident will take place

If its determined that bullying, harrassment, or discrimination has occurred, parents will be contacted and consequences may include:

Loss of privileges, Lunch & recess detention, or Suspension.
