The testing effect is the finding that long-term memory is increased when some of the learning period is devoted to retrieving the to-be-remembered information through testing with proper feedback.
When we acquire new knowledge we typically struggle to retain it. Regular ‘retrieval’ builds our long-term memory
Flashcards with knowledge from Knowledge Organiser
(or spelling words, vocab etc)
These can be differentiated for different key stages. �Note the use of dual-coding (text and images) to aid retention

Prepare 3 envelopes for each child. These will contain their flashcards.
This activity should be carried out daily for best results.
The cards in the ‘everyday’ envelope will be used daily. The other envelopes will be looked at less frequently, as children become more secure in their knowledge.

Incorrect answers ALWAYS go back to the first envelope
