The School Training Overdose Preparedness and Intelligence Taskforce: an initiative to address the opioid crisis in Arizona schools.

Exciting Update! ADE has received 16,200 Narcan kits, in partnership with ADHS and AHCCCS.

• ADE is still taking requests to supply school in the state with Narcan through pre-identified locations in each of the 15 counties.

Reducing the Lung Health Burden of the Climate Crisis

Purpose

Climate change is exacerbating long-standing air quality issues, as record heatwaves, droughts and wildfires become commonplace. Exposure to unhealthy air causes complications for the 34 million people in the U.S. who are living with lung disease. The American Lung Association is committed to addressing this critical public health need.

Background

Reducing the Lung Health Burden of the Climate Crisis is a public health intervention designed to decrease the negative impact that poor air quality has on lung health and address the associated health disparities faced by marginalized communities.

• In collaboration with CVS Health Foundation
• Working with healthcare providers and community organizations to support people with lung disease
• Focus on Phoenix, Arizona (Maricopa County), as it is one of most polluted cities in the United States for ozone and particulate pollution

Ranked 9th worst

metropolitan area for annual particle pollution in State of the Air 2024

Project Goals

1. Equip healthcare providers with tools to improve care of patients with lung disease during poor air quality days.
2. Empower people with lung disease and their caregivers to take steps that reduce their risk of health complications during days with unhealthy air.
3. Leverage local air quality data to develop education

programs and policies to protect lung health.

Community Education Goals

• Goal: ensure individuals living with a lung disease (e.g. asthma) understand how to learn about their air quality and have resources and strategies to protect themselves during poor air quality days

• At school, responsibility may be put on school staff
• ALA wants to assist schools in educating staff and providing resources to support students, staff, and parents
• Guide schools to local resources and support
