Engaging politicians, companies, institutions

Parents have used their voices to:

  • Strengthen the Federal Climate Accountability Act (it passed!)
  • Pressure banks or institutions to divest from fossil fuels
  • Get 15 more electric school buses on the roads in BC
  • Get school boards to adopt climate plans, i.e. reduce emissions and hire staff to implement plans

Support youth movement

Many of our teams have started out by supporting the youth climate strikers. Get in touch with their local chapter and see if they need adults to help take on any tasks. Organize parent/young kid events at the youth strikes. Brining cookies, hot chocolate, or crafts/art making for participants. For Our Kids has also recently joined two youth-led climate lawsuits.

Other local projects for climate resiliency

  • Tree planting, pollinator gardens or solar panels for local schools
  • Advocate for public transit/bike infrastructure
  • Organize a public event, like a “play-in” or meet up for families to share climate concerns and ideas for action
