Students undertaking Mathematics as part of their Senior School program, need to carefully consider the most appropriate subject pathway, taking into consideration the requirements of any future courses, career changes, and their individual capability.

General Mathematics

  • The General Mathematics Units 1-2 prepares students for employment or further study.

  • The course covers Mathematical skills that are relevant to everybody’s everyday life. Being able to critically analyse, interpret and represent data is not only a skill required for many jobs, but also an important tool to assist in day-to-day decision making

  • General Mathematics Units 3-4 meets many university courses prerequisites and is particularly useful for primary school teaching, nursing, TAFE and apprenticeships

Mathematics Methods

  • This subject focuses on Algebra, Graphing and Probability as well as the use of technology, particularly CAS calculators. Each of the units contains material that leads to a progressive development of skills across the four units. Units 1 and 2 prepares students for undertaking Mathematical Methods Units 3 & 4.

  • Mathematical Methods is designed for students with an interest in mathematics and whose future paths may involve mathematics or statistics studies at university, such as engineering, technology, sciences, accounting, economics, health and social sciences. This course is a prerequisite study for many tertiary courses.
