What is ?

For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology

 

  • In the 1970’s, MIT Professor Dr. Woodie Flowers created a robot design competition for his mechanical engineering class.

​

  • In 1989, Dean Kamen sought out Dr. Flowers, developing the game together and using Kamen’s wealth to start the FIRST organization.

​

  • In 1992, Twenty-eight teams of high school students competed in the inaugural FIRST Robotics Competition in a school gymnasium in New Hampshire.

​

  • In 1998, FIRST partnered with LEGO to begin FIRST LEGO League.

​

  • In 2005, FIRST piloted their Tech Challenge program.

“Rule Breakers,” a feature film inspired by the true story of the all-girls FIRST team the Afghan Dreamers.

"More Than Robots" follows four teams of teenagers from around the world as they prepare for the 2020 FIRST Robotics Competition. Get to know teams from Los Angeles, Mexico City, and Chiba, Japan as they work towards the goal of taking their unique designs all the way to the highly competitive global championships.
