  • Tensile testing: a fundamental materials science and engineering test in which a sample is subjected to a controlled tension until failure. The goal of tensile testing is to find out how strong a material is and how much it can be stretched before it breaks by measuring fundamental variables, such as, strain, stress, and deformation.
