August Freebie: �Let’s Go Camping!

This game is designed for 2-3 students to play. It can be edited for any word list. A color and B&W version is provided.

To prepare the game: 

• Make a copy of the game board. Each game will need a die and every player will need a different colored chip and their own camping supply mat.
• Edit the word cards to include any words that fit the phonics pattern you are practicing.
• Copy and cut out the word cards and camping supply cards.
• Place word cards in one pile and the camping supply cards in 7 separate piles.

Game directions:

1. Player 1 starts at the top of the circle where it says START. Player 1 rolls the die and moves their chip clockwise the number of spaces rolled.
2. If Player 1 lands on a word card spot, they pick a word card from the pile and read it. Then they discard it to the bottom of the word card pile.
3. If Player 1 lands on a camping picture spot, they collect that supply card and add it to their camping supply mat. If Player 1 lands on a camping card that they already have, they miss a turn.
4. Then Player 2 will roll the die and take their turn.
5. Players keep going around the circle clockwise, taking turns, reading and collecting cards until all their camping supply cards have been collected and laid out on their own mats. Players may have to go around the circle several times.
6. The first player to collect all 7 of their different camping supply cards on their mat wins!! Players could also see who has collected the most camping supplies given a set time too. (To play without a winner, have students play until they collect all the supplies once or twice as a group!)
