This species can be recognized by:

  • Wings, thorax ,and abdomen black, with two white maculae on second segment

Other helpful characters for ruling out H. sexmaculata:

  • Frons wide, with pale spots/lines on either side, not connected on the occiput
  • Antennae held up, not straight forward

Widespread

Darkness on wing with distinct border, never diffuse

Body black with brownish to yellowish setae
