Lesson 4: Synonyms and Antonyms
Materials:
1. Page 4: Synonyms and Antonyms
2. Dinosaur books
3. Post it notes
Objective: Students will identify synonyms and antonyms.
Procedure: (groups of 3)
1. Show the PPT or use the board to review synonyms and antonyms.
Synonyms are words that have the same or almost the same meaning.
Antonyms are words that have opposite meaning.
2. Distribute books and two yellow sticky notes to each student.
3. Have students read the books and identify two synonyms and two antonyms.
4. On the board, make a t-chart with the words Synonyms on one side and Antonyms on
the other.
5. As a class, review some of the synonyms and antonyms the students found in the books.
As they share their words, have them come up and place the sticky notes on the t-chart
under Synonyms or Antonyms.
6. Distribute Page 4: Synonyms and Antonyms
EXTENSION:
Students can make a word search with the synonyms and antonyms they find.
