October 2018 Natural Mystery
This month's Natural Mystery comes from the sand roads of Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve. This particular print was in the south unit, just outside the Bison Enclosure. The most striking feature of the track are the deep, pronounced claw marks--but look at the more subtle details for clues to identify the print. The question is "who?" A bonus question is "which foot?"

An ideal answer will identify the animal to species, explain how you arrived at your answer, and explain how you eliminated other candidates and possibilities. It is after all a raccoon until proven otherwise. For the bonus, identify which foot and explain your reasoning both for front vs back and for left vs right. Your explanations will help others benefit from your process as you puzzle through this.
