What to Expect: A slow-paced outing that will emphasize learning essential birding skills like principles of binocular use, ethical birding, birding apps and resources. The habitat includes marsh, woods, and meadow scenery.
What to Bring: A high-quality mask (k95 or n95) and spare mask for swapping out. Please bring binoculars if you have them, though we have a few extra pairs. Water, sunscreen, and bug protection are also recommended. Check the weather and dress accordingly.
Accessibility: This event requires high-quality, n95-type masks, and we will have some to share. Please bring masks of your own to wear if you have access and move away from the group to take hydration or snack breaks. The rail trail is fully wheelchair accessible on a flat asphalt path which has plenty of space for social distancing. We anticipate travelling approximately a half mile from the parking lot then double backing. There are a few irregularly placed rest spots, and we will take breaks to rest. It's likely but not certain there will be a portable toilet. If you have other accessibility needs, please let us know in the registration form.
Land Acknowledgement: We recognize and appreciate that these trails lie on land that has been stewarded by generations of the Nipmuc & Pocumtuc People.
**This event is part of FBC's Birdathon! Feminist Bird Club’s second-annual Birdathon is happening May 17-20. We’d love to have you participate by donating to the cause or birding with us.
