Yspaniola Internship Application
Yspaniola is a Dominican-American education nonprofit building a model of high quality education programs in Batey Libertad from pre-kindergarten through university. After creating successful programs in Batey Libertad, we will replicate our model in other bateys and marginalized communities in the Dominican Republic. Yspaniola’s vision is to provide graduates of our programs the tools they need to successfully advocate for themselves and their communities. Yspaniola also operates Experiential Learning trips for high school and university students from countries outside of the DR to raise awareness about international development and social justice issues on the island.
Yspaniola offers 9-14 week internships to students who are recent graduates or currently enrolled in Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. These internships may span a summer, a semester, or a full year. During their internships, interns have the opportunity to teach and tutor in the Learning Center and support our University Scholarship, Summer Camp, Development, and Community Outreach programs, while learning first-hand about NGO operations. Yspaniola’s internships are traditionally 9-14 weeks long, and include a variety of cultural trips and learning opportunities around the Dominican Republic.
We encourage and provide resources for interns to improve their Spanish, learn Haitian Creole, and to pursue their own interests, including: writing, photography, marketing, fundraising, and more. Yspaniola interns develop both personally and professionally, as they contribute to daily operations and become fully immersed in the social, political, and economic environments of Batey Libertad and the Dominican Republic. Interns are required to pay a fee to cover housing, food and transportation while in the country, but Yspaniola can assist in fundraising or applying for school-sponsored funding.
