I Have a Dream Essay Contest
The U.S. Embassy in South Africa is hosting a Black History Month essay competition for South African youth (16-20 years old). The theme is "I HAVE A DREAM – WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE," marking 30 years of democracy. Participants must submit a 400-word essay and a video reading of their essay addressing their dreams for South Africa's future. Top 9 winners (1 from each province) will attend a final event in Pretoria in mid-April, where they'll present live speeches. Submissions are due by Feb. 29, 2024, and winners will be awarded MacBook, iPad, and iPad Mini. Judging criteria include communication effectiveness and unique perspectives on the topic. Winning entries will be featured on the U.S. Embassy's social media.
