Isla Vista Surfrider Intern Application
Want to gain valuable internship experience, make a positive impact on the Isla Vista community, and protect your local coast? Isla Vista Surfrider is seeking interns for this school year. We have a variety of internship opportunities available and we would love to have YOU involved with our organization to make this year our best one yet! Both new and returning students are encouraged to apply.

What is IV Surfrider? Isla Vista Surfrider is a chapter of the international Surfrider Foundation. We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves, and beaches through a powerful activist network. Our group consists of diverse ocean enthusiasts who are dedicated to protecting local coastlines. All interns are expected to commit a minimum of one year and to attend all IV Surfrider events that fit their schedule, including our weekly meetings. If you are interested in applying, please fill out the following application in addition to emailing your resume to

Available Positions:
Rise Above Plastics Coordinators (3 Positions Available)
RAP aims to raise awareness of the dangers of single-use plastics. Interns will contribute to various campaigns, such as tabling to spread awareness, finding sustainable alternatives to plastic such as metal straws, coordinating and organizing an incentivized cigarette butt collection program, and an anti-solo cup campaign. An ideal candidate is self-motivated, innovative, and works well in a team. A passion for protecting our oceans and beaches is a requisite. Responsibilities will include attending regular meetings, assisting with campaign design and implementation tailored to our community, attending all tabling events and assisting the broader IV Surfrider team with their projects on occasion.
Ocean Friendly Gardens Coordinators (3 Positions Available)
Ocean Friendly Gardens is a program that focuses on the ability to revive our under-hydrated watersheds and polluted oceans by applying CPR (Conservation, Permeability and Retention) to our landscapes. Ocean Friendly Gardens is looking for passionate students who want to help keep our oceans clean through bettering our agricultural practices. Right now, our main focus is getting composting to the residents of Isla Vista. The IV Dirtrider Compost Collective is in the process of expanding our program and we aspire to have a long-lasting, sustainable system for students and residents of Isla Vista to have the ability to dispose of food scraps in a positive way. Our interns will play a big role in continuing the growth and success of our program as well as other OFG opportunities.
Special Events Coordinators (2-3 Positions Available)
IV Surfrider is looking for creative interns with the organizational skills to help plan beach cleanups, film screenings, fundraisers, and other impactful events. Responsibilities include contacting local business leaders and community members, acquiring necessary supplies, coordinating volunteer schedules, and promoting events.
Concert Coordinator (2 Positions Available)
Concert for the Coast is IV Surfrider's biggest annual event. It is a day-long concert that is held in park in Isla Vista. Surfrider is seeking a coordinator who would be responsible for assisting in putting on this awesome event! Responsibilities would include booking the bands, fundraising, gathering raffle prizes, finding local vendors to table, and facilitating the event. We are looking for a freshman or sophomore that can continue the event after this year.
Communications & Marketing Manager (2 Positions Available)
IV Surfrider is looking for an articulate and creative intern to run and expand our social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and WordPress web page. The intern should be able to remain up to date on current social media trends and reach out to target audiences. Responsibilities include researching current events, staying up to date on local and international issues relevant to the Surfrider Foundation, publicizing IV Surfrider, and creating and promoting social media campaigns. Communications & Marketing Managers will have the opportunity to collaborate and network with the social media team at Sanük, which has recently partnered with Surfrider.
Art Director (1 Position Available)
IV Surfrider is looking for a creative and enthusiastic intern to be the artistic touch to our organization. The intern must be flexible, utilizing design methods by hand and computer. Working with other interns, the Art Director will channel creative ideas to effectively convey messages and increase project impact. Some projects may include designing T-shirts, painting signs, and creating fliers.
