Established in 2018, Long Beach Youth Leadership Institute is a community based advocacy program. We equip young people ages 14–24 with research, storytelling, and advocacy skills so they can mobilize their visions for themselves and their communities.
OUR 4-STEP YOUTH DEVELOPMENT MODEL:
- Leadership: Building community organizing and advocacy skills
- Research: Conducting community-based research on local issues through interviews, surveys, and focus groups
- Storytelling: Amplifying findings through multimedia storytelling such as film, photography, writing, and more
- Campaigns: Transform storytelling into real-world advocacy by speaking at city council meetings, serving as panelists on roundtables, facilitating community-based workshops, pushing for policy change and more!
Over the past 35 years, Youth Leadership Institute (yli) has supported youth in passing 140+ policies on social justice issues at local, regional, and state levels.
JOIN US! We especially welcome Black, Indigenous, youth of color, LGBTQ+, immigrant, and systems-impacted youth.
