Monument Quilt National Mall Volunteer Form
May 31-June 2, 2019, the Monument Quilt will blanket the National Mall with 3,000 stories from victims and survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence, and messages of support, in a culminating display. After 5 years and 46 displays across the country and in Mexico, we hope you can join us to create public, healing space by and for survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence in our nation's capital. We are so excited, and grateful, about the prospect of collaborating with you to bring this vision to life!

The Monument Quilt by art and activist collective FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture is an on-going collection of stories from survivors of rape and abuse, and messages of support. Written, stitched, and painted onto red fabric, our stories are displayed in city and town centers to create and demand public space to heal. The quilt resists the popular and narrow narrative of how sexual violence occurs by telling many stories, not one. The quilt builds a new culture where survivors are publicly supported, rather than publicly shamed.

We will try our best to assign you to one of your two choices. Please be advised that if there is an area that is understaffed by volunteers, you may be assigned to work in said area (and if this is the case, we will communicate with you ahead of time).

This will serve as your volunteer schedule during the Monument Quilt display. The Monument Quilt Display and Healing Festival in DC will require a number of tasks and the ability to independently and successfully complete projects that will make the weekend successful for all who attend. Feel free to choose multiple options. Set up and break down shifts are indicated below - all other shifts are applicable to any of the above roles. We will confirm your shift within one month of the event.
