REVIEW OF THE INTERNATIONALISATION POLICY OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN MALAYSIA: MALAYSIAN STUDENT PERSPECTIVES

Briefing Statement
Thank you for participating in this study to review how higher education institutions (HEI) in Malaysia have become more internationalised in its policies and practices. Six areas are evaluated: student mobility, staff mobility, academic programmes, research and development, governance and autonomy and social integration and community engagement.

Your participation in this survey is very important. Your participation is completely voluntary and you have the right to withdraw at any point without penalty. Your answers will be kept confidential and anonymous.

Do answer all the questions as honestly as you can. The questionnaire will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. If you have any questions, please contact the following team members.

What are you going to be asked to do?
If you agree to participate, you will be asked to take part in a survey that looks into the six aspects of Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in Malaysia. The six aspects are student mobility, staff mobility, academic programmes, research and development, governance and autonomy and social integration and community engagement.

Altogether the questionnaire should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. This study will be conducted by our researchers. No audio/video recording is involved.
What are the risks involved in this study?
There is a minimum risk or side effects on the participants before, during or after the study. There is the potential that participants may become fatigued whilst completing the questionnaires. Your answers will be stored electronically in a password-protected file that will not include any personal information about you. This means that answers cannot be traced back to any participant. Your answer to the survey which is to be stored electronically and accessible only by the researchers. Your participation is entirely voluntary. If you are feeling distressed, you may withdraw from the study at any time and a referral could be made for further support.
What are the possible benefits of this study?
You will receive no direct benefit from participating in this study; however, there may be societal benefits such as your answers will help us improve policies of HEIs in Malaysia.
Do I have to participate?
No, your participation in this study is voluntary. This research study may take place during regular classroom activities and you may decline to participate or to withdraw from participation at any time. Withdrawal or refusing to participate will not affect your relationship with the school authorities in any way. You can agree to be in the study now and change your mind later without any penalty.
What if I do not want to participate?
If you do not want to participate - you will not be included in the study and there will be no penalty. If you initially agree to be in the study, you can change your mind later without any penalty.
Will there be any incentives for participation?
No, there will be no incentive given for participating in this study.
How will my privacy and confidentiality be protected if I participate in this research study?
Your privacy and the confidentiality of your data will be protected by the researcher. Your answers will be stored electronically in a password-protected file that will not include any personal information about you. This means that your answers cannot be traced back to any participant.
